Ergonomics in the office is the study of how human physiology can be designed into the commercial office environment. This needs to be studied based on the individual as well as groups of people. Our behaviours at work is constantly changing to meet the challenges of changes of the dynamics of teams, pressures on the business, changes in business culture and management thinking.

For normal work the desk should not be smaller than 1200mm long and 800mm deep. European standards for height are 720mm. There should also be a space of 1200mm behind occupied desks for freedom of movement and 800mm behind unoccupied desks.
Distance from the eye to the VDU screen should be 500-700mm. The monitor position should be 10 to 20 below the horizontal vision on the user. The distance between the thighs and the palms should not exceed 260mm and the angle of the elbow should be greater than 90 degrees when using the keyboard.
