An article recently published in the Telegraph claims that top executives in a company waste up to 6 weeks a year looking for lost items or paper. Not only this but experts say that untidiness within the office can also seriously reduce a staffs motivation and decrease their productivity. Not only this, but having a cluttered office that is full of scattered box files and redundant furniture is a real deterrent for potential clients as a good impression for a client coming into the office is key.
Research shows that by simply tidying and reorganising your office desk and arranging your office furniture in a more efficient way including reorganising storage, can save office space and raise productivity levels by up to 30%. Not only this, it can reduce stress levels in an office and save valuable time and money.
The National Association of Professional Organisers said conducted a recent study that concluded that a huge 91% of office workers felt they could be more efficient at work if they were better organised.
Here are some useful tips in how to make your office more organised, and therefore a more efficient place to work. The first one is simple, try and incorporate a clear desk policy within the office. This can help get employees into a routine of tidying away their work and keeping their office desk tidy. Office furniture manufacturers are really pushing for their office desks, pedestals and office storage such as tambour cupboards to have optimum storage facilities.
Another tip is for employers to divide their office into functional zones which are able to maximise the space available.
Another problem that NAPO have revealed is that staff get increasingly frustrated with not have any space to keep their personal items such as jackets and lunch boxes etc… Therefore it is advised that you invest in office accessories such as coat stands and pedestals to help staff organise personal belongings.

Ergonomics, I don’t have to say really, have become the topic of much conversation not only in the office furniture industry but in many other industries. We spend a lot of time sitting down, more than ever before and it won’t become a shock if I say that nationally and internationally we are all getting larger on the whole. The Belize stool is a great way to not only take the weight off your legs but also keep you in a good ergonomic position when not only working but also relaxing as well.

There are other stools like this on the market at the moment, these include the Sway Stool and the Muvman Stool, however having tried all three I believe that the Belize comes out on top.
The Belize features a large round base that can easily support you if you lean too far, something that I found the Sway Stool lacks as it has a relatively small base. The Belize also features a round seat that is mounted on a height adjustable single pole that can suit users of all different sizes. The stool is available in a huge range of fabrics, imitation leathers and real leathers that its rival stools do not have, so we are sure that you will find the right material for you.

The reason that these type of stools have become popular in recent times is that they not only classed as café furniture and bistro furniture, but they can also be classed as office furniture and ergonomic office furniture as they will appeal to both industries.

This stool is available for purchase and you can get more information on this stool by calling our sales team or by visiting our sister site Online Reality. Click here to purchase.

Don’t let the title fool you, as a working nation; it appears that we do not stand up as often as we should be doing. It is a simple enough activity to partake in our working lives; however recent study has proved that we are not standing up as much as we should be doing. By this I mean that we work to long at our office desks and do not take a break. It seems that the most common form of communication within the office is email as opposed to simply face-to-face communication and if we carry on like this then it will be bad news for all of us.
A recent study that has been carried out at the British Psycological Society Annual Occupational Conference, claims that people spend on average 5 hours and 41 minutes sat at their desk every single working day. During these times, it seems that office workers do not take regular breaks from their office chair to move around and increase the blood flow to their body.
The main problem is that we are an, “ageing” population that appears to be working later into to their lives; however we do not take into account our health when deciding to stay late at the office. The situation is that we do not think about our bodies and health when we decide to either work late or take longer hours. The survey was undertaken with more than 1000 people from a variety of jobs including retail and telecommunications. It seems that sitting at your office desk on your swivel chair for hours a day has a link to your weight, surprise surprise.
What we need to do is to come up with a way of reminding people to get up and walk around. Unfortunately the only reminder we have so far is a post-it note on the computer screen. The advice is, from the experts, is to talk to colleagues face to face, rather than email.

More and more people nowadays are deciding to work at an office desk and spending long periods of time in an office desk. It is no surprise that the numbers of injuries that are related to work such as back pain, neck strain and shoulder problems are on the rise.

Steelcase have been a household name within the office furniture industry for decades. They have been producing well designed, bright and efficient office furniture for some time and have become the world’s largest manufacturer of office furniture. Their recent collaboration with IDEO has helped them to create their latest product, the Node chair.

IDEO are a design company that work with other companies in the commercial and private sectors to help them develop their ideas. Not only this but they also help new businesses realise potential problems and help them to overcome these. It is for this reason that a collaboration with Steelcase was not a surprise.

The Node chair has been designed with students in mind. As far as education furniture and education seating, this product is unique in a number of ways. The chair has a unique look and has a 360 degree rotating seat that helps students to collaborate and work together easier. This also helps any class set up as the chair, due to the rotating function can adapt to any desk configuration.

As well as this the chair also has a small tablet that can be used for both left handed or right handed people. The small adjustable table is also big enough for books, notepads and even a laptop depending on the user’s preference.

Another unique feature about the chair is that it has a storage compartment in the base. This space is large enough to store bags, books, papers and laptop cases so clutter around the classroom is kept to a minimum. Mounted on 5 castors for easiy mobility around the room, this chair has a plastic seat making it durable and tamperproof so even young children can use it. This chair also comes in a range of vibrant colours which is designed to suit any classrooms décor.

Ergonomics gets mentioned all the time when talking about office work, in particular office furniture. Vast amounts of money have been invested in trying to find the solution to the problem of work related injuries due to long hours in front of a computer. We have large amounts of ergonomic chairs, ergonomic desks, height adjustable desks etc… available on the market today, but the truth is we probably will never be able to find a solution that will suit everyone in the world’s needs. There are things we can do ourselves however that will help to prevent these injuries from occurring. Below are some stretches that can be done in the comfort of your own office chair.

Place your hands behind your head. Bend your head forward slightly, breathe in deeply and slowly stretch out the upper part of your neck. Whilst doing this, make sure that you keep the back and shoulder regions as upright as possible. Hold this position for five slow breaths.

Using your right hand place it above your left ear. Pull your head to the right so you can feel the side of your neck stretch and hold for approximately 3 breaths. Once you have done this, repeat this on the opposite side.

For this exercise you will need to stand by a wall. Stand sideways to the wall and place your left hand on the wall. Making sure that your arm is straight, stretch your right arm over your head and to the left. Hold this position for four deep breaths and repeat this movement on the other side. This position stretches the side of the spine and its muscles.

Whilst seated in your chair place your hands behind the back of the chair and arch your back over the chair whilst pushing out your chest and lifting your hands. This stretches the chest and its muscles.

Whilst standing, extend your left arm and point your hand down. Place your right hand over the back of the left and stretch your forearm. Hold for five deep breaths and repeat for the other side

Place your palms together and point your fingers up. Place your hands, with your palms and fingers fully touching, in the centre of your chest and raise your elbows and hold for five deep breaths whilst stretching the muscles in front of the wrist and arm.

Hold hands in front of you and stretch your fingers out wide and stretch the palms. Hold this for four breaths whilst stretching the palms and fingers.

For this chair you will need to be seated. Try to find a non-swivel chair, for example a conference chair or even a café chair. Cross your right thigh over your left and twist the upper part of your body so you’re stretching the lumbar region of your back.

With the ever increasing number of people choosing to work in the office, the number of work related injuries is increasing. By this I mean injuries that are sustained due to posture and sitting on a chair for 8 or more hours a day. This is why ergonomic chairs are becoming ever more popular and one thing in which they all have in common is a lumbar support.

A lumbar support is designed to be positioned at the lower part of the back to give the body an S shape curve. There is a new chair on the market that is attempting to challenge the lumbar and that is the Axia Air chair.

The Axia Air, manufactured by BMA Nomique, uses an adjustable pelvic support which supports the pelvic region of your back at the base of the spine. The reason for this is that when the support is placed against the pelvis, your body naturally keeps a good posture. The design of the back means that your body is almost always in constant contact with the back of the chair whether you are sitting forward or back. As well as this when the chair is in the recline position, the arms stay exactly where they are compared to when the back is straight, which is unlike other rival chairs. The reason for this is that the armrests are supposed to be extensions of the desk and keep your arms in the correct position.

Aesthetics are not compromised with this chair and the overall appearance of this chair is fantastic. This chair is fully adjustable as standard, however there is one feature that is unusual when it comes to office or swivel chairs, and that is that it has been designed for disassembly. The seats are interchangeable, which is great for maintenance, however if you have a particular back problem then you can change the seat within a matter of seconds for a seat pad that has a shape specific to your need.

On final thing to note about this chair is that it is guaranteed for 10 years and is 97% recyclable and manufactured from 59% recycled material, so not only is this chair unique in function, it is also environmentally friendly as well.
