Vitra

Vitra Office furniture
Vitra are a family owned Company now based in Switzerland but with German roots. They specialise in the production of designer office furniture and chairs and produce work from many esteemed designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Verner Panton, and Marcel Brewer. Vitra was founded in 1950 by Willi Fehlbaum in Weil Am Ruen, Germany who owned a furniture shop in Basel Switzerland. In 1986 a fire destroyed the factory and various buildings were re erected on the site designed by eminent architects of the day including Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners who designed the aluminium factory hall which was ready  to resume production only six months after the fire. Frank O Gehry who constructed a further factory for the increasing demand for designer office furniture and seating. Frank O Gehry also completed the Vitra Design Museum. The design museum was originally conceived to house the private collection of its owner Rolf Fehlbaum but has now grown to show some of the many furniture design classics over the last century.
Vitra’s product portfolio includes furniture items that are suitable for office and reception areas and grace many reception areas as stand alsone pieces

Erro Aarnio

Eero Aarnio born 1932
A Finish designer born in Helsinki and known mainly for the bubble chair and ball chair which have been seen in many science fiction movies and, of course in the hit movie Austin Powers. Eero studied at the Institute of Arts in Helsinki and in the early sixties began working with plastics and designing furniture items with playful shapes and colours. Many of his works can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In June 2006 one of his latest designs the Trioli children’s chair received the prestigious Adi Compasso D’Aro award. The bubble and ball chair are can be used in break out and reception areas and general office seating.

Komfort Office Environments plc are primarily known for the manufacture and supply of office partitioning and dividers, the most popular ranges being Komfire 75, Mirage and Polar single glazed partitioning. Their office furniture division produces a number of office furniture ranges including the traditional Velocity range, and the futuristic Polar Ski range of designer office furniture which blends wood finishes and glass to produce some stunning results. The recently launched Less range is an attempt to minimilise the number off components used in the manufacture of office desks there by making less impact on the environment and reducing the overall cost. A simple T leg and beam forms the basis of the structure and can be assembled in 30 seconds and there is also a sliding top option to provide easy access from the desk top surface to the cable management system. Tops are available in white, light grey and walnut. Desks are recngular or angular in shape with range of desk returns. Komfort also have a veneer division based in Chatham who produce boardroom and executive office furniture

Staverton office furniture

Staverton executive office furniture
Staverton arose from a team of craftsman who were commissioned to refurbish a medieval hall in Dartington  South Devon. After the work was finished the team formed a new Company Staverton Joinery in 1928. The second world war brought many lucrative MOD contracts, however  just after the war in 1946 the factory was destroyed by a fire.  
After moving into a new premises and into the 60’s Staverton won many contracts from the Crown Suppliers and some of the top London Hotels. The 1980’s saw Staverton manufacturing contemporary office furniture for Dealing rooms in the City and some specialist contracts for clients in the Middle East. In 2002 Staverton went into receivership and was acquired buy the Logic office furniture Group. The factory was moved to Yorkshire alongside Logic’s office furniture factory a few years later. Transition beam seating
A new range of bench or beam seating for general office use or for public areas. There are there options. Wooden seats and backrests in Dark Oak, Natural Beech or Natural Oak. The frame consist 3mm steel seats and backs and a central beam of extruded aluminium. The frame is available in white, silver or black epc. The black frame is supplied with contrasting polished aluminium feet. There are also optional armrests in white, silver and polished aluminium. Steel finished seats and backs in white, silver, red or black alternatively padded polyurethane seat and backs in Red, Blue or Black. Three, four, five and six seater benches are available for order on a 3-4 week lead time. Transition  seating is ideal for office reception areas, schools, colleges, theatres or airports

Boss Design office seating
Based in Dudley Birmingham and founded by the present Managing Director Brian Murray in 1983. Boss design specialise in the provision of high quality office chairs and seating to the contract market. 1985 saw the launch of the Iconic Delphi executive and conference chair. Boss design won their first export project in 1988 when they were commissioned to manufacture and install soft seating for a casino in Gibraltar. 1998 saw the launch of the Komac division aimed at the provision of value office chairs to the general market place through a network of dealers. Further growth saw the Company move to a new headquarters in 2000 this purpose built factory has a floor space of 105, 000 square foot. A London showroom on the Euston Road was added in 2001 as Boss Design expended further into the office seating marketplace. Products include the Dipi range of tub chairs, Adda, modular seating for reception and break out areas and Kruz designer seating. This year Boss was presented with eth Green Heroes ward by the Botanist David Bellamy for an manufacturing environmental study.

Kimball Office Furniture
Another American office furniture manufacturer Kimball was originally known as the Jasper group named after the town where it was founded by Arnold F Habig in 1950 Originally a small contract furniture Company with around 30 employees The Jasper group won a number of large contracts for the manufacture of television cabinets, an expanding market in the US. In 1959 The Jasper Corporation acquired Kimball Piano.
Kimball Piano had one of the largest manufacturing facilities in the world and a long history in the manufacture of Pianos. Although at the time of this acquisition Kimball had slipped from the top to seventh position for Piano makers it took a further 10 years for it to reach number one again. In 1970 the Kimball Group began the manufacture of office furniture and very quickly earned a reputation for high quality and quick shipping. 
In the 80’s Kimball created National Office Furniture a division which provided affordable office furniture to small and medium businesses on a rapid delivery programme.
Kimball Office furniture brands include Hum system furniture, Skye designer office chairs and Acapella wooden conference chairs. Kimball and National office furniture are recognized as leaders in the office furniture market in the US

Herman Miller the office furniture company that was responsible for the ubiquitous Aeron office chair has launched a new office chair called the Embody. Six years in the making it is being billed as the first bionic chair in the world. Going under the code name of Stockholm the Embody does more than prevent the maladies that come with endless sitting in office chairs, it is claimed to be good for you, and improve your health! The chairs co-designer Jeff Weber has said that the Embody represents  a leap to a new evolution of office chairs and in answer to these bold claims that sitting is believing. The chair will track the users movements and find a position in which the head is placed above the pelvis this reduces the pressure on the “sitting bones” and improves the blood flow to the legs. Also built in f flexibility in the back will allow  the user in inhale and exhale a greater quantity of air with each breath.
