Vitra are a family owned Company now based in Switzerland but with German roots. They specialise in the production of designer office furniture and chairs and produce work from many esteemed designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Verner Panton, and Marcel Brewer. Vitra was founded in 1950 by Willi Fehlbaum in Weil Am Ruen, Germany who owned a furniture shop in Basel Switzerland. In 1986 a fire destroyed the factory and various buildings were re erected on the site designed by eminent architects of the day including Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners who designed the aluminium factory hall which was ready to resume production only six months after the fire. Frank O Gehry who constructed a further factory for the increasing demand for designer office furniture and seating. Frank O Gehry also completed the Vitra Design Museum. The design museum was originally conceived to house the private collection of its owner Rolf Fehlbaum but has now grown to show some of the many furniture design classics over the last century.
Vitra’s product portfolio includes furniture items that are suitable for office and reception areas and grace many reception areas as stand alsone pieces
