Face to face vs Back to Back

Face to face vs Back to back office desks
One of the dilemmas that face anyone designing open plan spaces for office workers is the preference of where individuals would like to sit against the design brief and limitations of the space. If workers are used to cellular office environment but management are looking for an open team work approach then clearly comprises are required. Recent studies show that a massive 60% of working who work in a double sided bench type configuration complain about the noise. Careful consideration should be given to the type of work carried out. Departments such as Accounts or Administration will not benefit from an ease of communication that benching promotes whereas sales and marketing clearly do. Those that undertake work that requires continued concentration are better working in a U configuration with their back to one another and perhaps separated by a greater amount of floor space than their face to face co workers. In addition almost everybody will require a period where they need to focus on more difficult tasks. In our industry sales people often need to write proposals that can sometimes be quite complex. A set aside area for this type of work such as a multipurpose meeting room or quiet area screened away from colleagues can be a great benefit
