Florence Knoll Basset

Florence Knoll Bassett (born 1917)
An American furniture designer who studied under the eminent Mies Van Der Roche. Boren in Michigan and then known as Florence Schust. In her early years she worked with the Bahaus group alongside Marcel Breur.
During the second world way she convinced Hans Knoll to employ her in his new furniture Company and to set up an interior design division to liaise with Architects. This was a shrewd and successful move that lead to the creation of many furniture design icons of the 20th Century. Florence married Hans Knoll in 1946. Together they created the Knoll Corporation a Company that produces and designs office furniture and designer furniture on a international scale. Florence designs for desks were very minimalist and square. Florence was also an early pioneer of total design where the interior of an office space was taken as a whole and all aspects including signage, decor, advertising and logos were considered holistically. Early clients who subscribed to here theories for creation of their office environment included HJ Heinz and CBS
Florence’s design pieces can be used as reception furniture and furniture for general office use
