Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988)
Isamu was a Japanese American Artist and Landscape Architect who worked in Los Angeles and New York. His sculptures for public works can be found across the world and at the Noguchi museum in New York. Much of his early work has mixed reviews and often features organic curves that became a signature of his work. The bus relief called news over the entrance to the Associated Press offices in New York was considered the most successful The Invasion of Pearl Harbour had a profound effect on Isamu who campaigned for the treatment of Japanese interees before volunteering himself as a internee at Poston camp in 1942
Collaboration in LA with Charles Eames and others and sponsored by the office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller he was strongly featured in the 1948 Catalogue of Modern Furniture which contained a number of design classics that are still produced today.
