Herman Miller enter the healthcare market

Despite posting a drop of 82% in profits in the last quarter of 2008 Herman Miller the US office furniture giant have acquired healthcare furniture provider Nemschoff. Based in Winconsin on te shoes of lake Michigan the Company was founded by Leonard Nemschoff in 1950. The product portfolio is made up of waiting room furniture, bariatric chairs, patient chairs and specialised recliners. The healthcare market is often seen as recession proof and office furniture makers view the market with commonality of products and opportunities to create a boarder range of products. Herman Miller paid around 32 million dollars and 200 shares for Nemschoff

Johansen Design

Exhibiting some of their products at this year Prima exhibition the Swedish based Johansen Design is moving to a new purpose built location to cope with their recent growth. The new building will give the Company over 8,000 square foot for production, offices and a new showroom. Run since the early 90’s by Paul and Dan Johanson  they specialize in office furniture, office seating and contract furniture promoted through the A and D community. Outside of Scandinavia the UK is Johansen’s biggest marketplace. Working in collaboration with well known furniture designers such as Mattias Ljunggren, Simon Pengelly and Anders Hjelm the company has a breathtaking range of break out and reception seating such as the U Sit range of modular seating and the Nemo range of break out chairs shown above. Johansen prides itself in offering furniture designs that are simple and minimalistic, they were pleased to be awarded entrepreneurs of the year in 2008 for their locality in Sweden.

The Fantoni group is an Italian office and contract furniture manufacturer as well as owning subsidiaries that manufacture flooring, MDF panels, Chipboard products and wood fibre packaging. Fantoni has been involved with wood working since 1882 buy Achille Fantoni who started with a small craft shop and became industrialised by the 1920’s starting with the award of large scale Government furniture projects. In 1974 Series 45 chairs designed by Gino Valle was exhibited at the Museum for Modern Art in New York. In 1979 Fantoni moved to a new headquarters in Osoppo near Trieste. The 1190’s saw the company pioneering work with the manufacture of furniture with lacquered MDF, being the first Company in Europe to do this. Today the Company is still owned and run by the Fantoni family with Marco assisted by his sons Giovanni and Paulo. Multipli is a linear executive furniture range with a timeless aesthetic appeal. The range consists of executive desks returns and storage platforms available in combinations of lacquered MDF and pale oak veneers. The Tre collection is a range of open pan desks and benches with optional panel sides or slimline metal legs wit a large extent of range and coordinating office storage cupboards and bookcases. Fantoni also have a number of other products all with a depth of design that has put them at the top of te design led office furniture market in Europe

Flatline is a contemporary designer furniture collection from German office furniture manufacturer Jahnke it features a stainless steel frame and legs in a trestle table design. Tops are supplied in either 25mm white or graphite MFC or in 12mm grey tempered glass. Desk sizes are 1400mm and 1000m rectangular with a corner link to form corner workstations. A three drawer under desk pedestal and desk height four drawer pedestals provide storage immediate to the desk. Combinations of bookcase and cupboard doors permit full height and combination cupboards. There is also a selection of office display shelving consisting of a stainless steel frame and white MFC shelves. The Logic office furniture Group was incorporated in 1959 and achieved a stock market listing in 1974. Now owned by Black Arrow PLC the office furniture arm of te group includes Logic, Staverton who manufacture executive furniture and boardroom furniture and lastly Kudos designs who have manufactured office screens since 1980. Logic manufacture a number of office furniture ranges including Ratio a contemporary four leg range with bench, corner desk and wave desk configurations. The Ex-cel range has a beam or trestle leg frame. Edit is an entry level desk system with a minimalistic feel. The company also offer bespoke reception desks and boardroom tables as well as a full range of office chairs and reception seating. Logic’s manufacturing base is in Rotherham and the sales office is at the Black Arrow head office in Hounslow.

Based in Fort Worth Texas Novikoff was founded by Leon Novikoff in 1959. Starting with only six employees and 2500 square foot of production space Novikoff’s new factory boasts 100,000 square foot and employs around 60 people. Novikoff specialise in the supply of high end executive furniture, boardroom tables and reception desks. The office furniture is built utilising hand selected premium wood veneers such as Figured Anigre, Quartered Bubinga, and Rift white oak. This system allows for a large capacity of cable management that includes distribution boxes and in some cases can obviate the need for floor boxes.
