Designed by Finnish designer Eero Aarino in 1963 the chair is also known as the “Globe Chair”. The 1960s was a period where the use of plastic and fibreglass materials was becoming more frequently accessible. Aarnio was the first designer to start using the technology available at the time alongside the above materials to create furniture masterpieces, creating a “room within a room”.
