Charles Eames was born in 1907 in Saint Louis, Missouri, predominantly an architect an designer he and his wife Ray Eames designed and produced some of the most influential and iconic pieces of furniture to date.
When Charles and Ray moved to California they specialised in moulding plywood which led them to a commision by the Navy to produce stretchers, moulded plywood splints and experimental glider shells. These products were eventually manufactured by Evans Products one of their moulded plywood chairs was hailed as chair of the century by architectural critic Esther McCoy.
Eventually prodution was given to the American company Herman Miller Inc who to this day produces and manufactures their designs. Closer to home Vitra International have the rights over many of these designs. Office Reality have a designer classic range which has similar products at sensible prices.
