It’s not often that we see office furniture break out into the art world; however a new exhibit opening in Muskegon Museum of Art (MMA) in Michigan contains past and present designs and prototypes by Herman Miller. Two of Herman’s most renowned chairs, the Aeron and the Eames lounge chair will be present at the exhibition. Whilst both chairs are aesthetically pleasing, it is a new exhibit that celebrates good industrial design that gives these chairs and Herman’s back catalogue the right to be included. The exhibition opened on August 21st and will be displayed in Michigan until November 8th. The exhibition is scheduled to be displayed across the United States in at least seven museums. It’s the Aeron’s and Eames’ solution of creating ergonomic postures for people of all shapes and sizes that gives these chairs the right to have a place in the exhibition. Whilst the Aeron is more of an office chair, it’s the Eames chair that seems more unbelievable as it manages to give the user a laid back relaxing position, whilst still being able to help support them ergonomically.
