Traditionally blackboards have been used in education settings. The blackboard has a rich history that can be traced back to as far as the 11th century where writing slates were used in Indian schools. The term ‘blackboard’ came to be used around the mid-18th century and was introduced from Europe into the US education system in the year 1801. After that the blackboard became a revolutionary piece of equipment that changed the way classrooms function. Around the late 20th century saw the development of the whiteboard which has replaced the use of the blackboard in many schools. However, blackboards are now as popular as ever in other settings. Often found in retail spaces, entertainment and hospitality environments and even in the home. Its history gives the blackboard a retro feel whilst being used alongside other materials, such as wood, gives it a chic aesthetic. We provide a range of blackboards that can be used in a number of ways.

Smaller than the standard classroom blackboard those in this range can be used with younger children and so can be beneficial to both nurseries and playrooms.
The Arden Blackboard is available in 4 size options to suit a variety of needs. It can be mounted either landscape or portrait and is for use with chalk pens. The Arden A Frame sign is also for use with chalk pens and provides a standing blackboard that is perfect for use outside of hospitality settings. The frame allows the board to fold flat so it can be easily moved and stored away when not in use. Writing can be used alongside colourful images drawn onto the blackboard to catch the eye of those passing.
